For me the best part about creating sea glass jewelry is the hunt for the glass. There is nothing better than finding a “treasure”. One great piece can make an otherwise just so-so day of sea glassing something special.
Some who create beach glass jewelry are also glass collectors. I have read of people who have thousands of pieces in their collections. Being a jewelry and craft creator and a collector can be a difficult pairing because you don’t want to let go of special pieces that could be used for jewelry. I don’t consider myself a collector. I grew up in a family that collected EVERYTHING. Cars, phonographs, juke boxes, clocks, antique furniture, cut glass, and the list goes on and on. In my late teens and early 20’s I became a collector too. Now thirty years later I have shed most of my collections and I think I’m happier.
Of course I have just a few favorite sea glass pieces, but only about a dozen. The rest of my special treasures go into making jewelry which means that mine is very unique beach glass jewelery.
